Face it Friday: Insurance!

A lot of companies have insurance
 "open season"
during this time of year.
"Open season" means that you can make changes on you insurance. If you don't make changes now, or during "open season", you will have to wait until next "open season". Most companies offer at least one possibility of insurance. Some offer a few different options for insurance. And some offer the possibility of a secondary insurance. If you need to have dental work done, either something basic like fillings for cavities, or more major services like crowns or  implants. The insurance you get can make a real difference in helping you pay for your services. If you check the coverage and compare it to the services you need, you may find that for a minimal amount of money per month, you can get a maximum amount of coverage. Check with your Human Resourse person at work to find out more about your insurance options during "open season".

Face it Friday!

Diabetes
If you have diabetes, you should know some things about how it will affect your dental health. The most important thing if you have diabetes (or otherwise) is to take good care of your mouth. You are at a greater risk of having periodontal (gum) disease. Periodontal disease can damage your gums and evetually cause bone loss around your teeth. This can lead to pain during chewing and eventually tooth loss. Periodontal disease can also make it harder to control you blood glucose.
Sometimes diabetics have problems with dry mouth. They can get infections in their mouth that are painful from not having enough saliva.
The best way to keep your gums and teeth healthy is, by controlling your blood glucose, brushing and flossing everyday, and visiting the dentist a least twice a year. If you have periodontal disease you will need to go to your dentist more often. When you do these things, you stay ahead of potential problems.
One more thing, if you smoke, quit.
It makes gum disease worse.
Make your smile the best it can be.
